What The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Means for Business Owners
By now, you have heard about the Coronavirus. The sad reality is that it is spreading quickly and will continue to spread for a while. Did you know that we are getting roughly 13,000 new cases a day, and it’s growing fast? No one really knows how many people will be infected (or will pass away sadly), but it has caused the global stock markets to crash, which means as a business (or even a marketer), you will be affected. So what does this mean for you? Well, before I go into that, let me be clear on what business owners should and should NOT do.
In a crisis situation subject to rapid change, business owners need a proactive plan to adjust and adapt how they lead their teams, speak to their customers, and manage their brands.
Customers may never know how a company’s finance or HR department responds to a major unpredicted event, but marketing sits center stage, its moves reflected in every ad campaign, message and channel. You set the tone for how customers perceive the brand during a difficult time.
Taking the right actions and finding the right message can be challenging, especially in a fast-changing situation. All companies should operate with integrity and trust, even as they come under pressure from a swiftly evolving situation. Those with a product or service well-suited for difficult times must, meanwhile, tread lightly, lest customers think they’re exploiting a tragedy.
The question on just about every business owner’s mind right now is, “How is the Coronavirus impacting my business, and it’s online presence?”

The Greater Stouffville Chamber is pleased to offer Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as part of our initiative to enhance member engagement and connectivity. These SIGs are communities within our Chamber that focus on advancing specific areas of interest, fostering collaboration among members with shared goals.
Currently, we have launched two SIGs:
Each SIG is led by a Chamber member and is designed to drive change and produce solutions through communication, meetings, and organized events. These groups provide unique opportunities to network with peers, share resources, and develop strategies to address challenges specific to their focus area.
Participation in a SIG is exclusive to Chamber members, making it an excellent opportunity for professional growth and community building. If you or someone you know is interested in joining one of our SIGs, please contact us at sebastian@stouffvillechamber.ca for more information and to secure your spot.
