Planning your digital strategy was a daunting task before a decade of rushed changes were ushered in due to COVID. Many of these changes are here to stay. What does that mean for security? It’s often said you can’t manage what you don’t measure. I would like to argue you can’t measure what you don’t understand.
The purpose of this talk is to teach through a narrative of three short stories of how to understand security so that you can measure, so that you can manage.
The session will be led by Mark Dillon, a founder and Director of Security Operations at Layer0, a cyber security firm located in Waterloo and Sarnia Ontario . Over the past ten years Mark has been working with intelligent communities, next generation wireless, fibre networks including IoT, utilities and municipalities.
Mark has implemented security protocols and controls for a variety of early adoption projects such as outdoor wireless ISPs, smart metering roll-outs, dark fibre builds, online voting systems as well as the automation of vehicles, wastewater, electric grids and core communications infrastructure. Mark is very passionate about the process of R&D, build it before you buy it, and attempts to stay current in all things security by teaching post-secondary students.
By playing a role in critical infrastructure from private, public, education and the utility sector Mark has gained a unique perspective of how communications technology, artificial intelligence and the internet of things present an opportunity for both substantial change and substantial risk.
