About our speakers
Marie-France Paquet
Chief Economist and Director General, Trade Analysis Bureau at Global Affairs Canada.
With a career that spans both academia and government, Marie-France has taught economics at the University of Ottawa’s School of Management and has worked on many of Canada’s economic and fiscal policies. She currently leads a team of analysts in reporting and advising on international trade, investment and economic issues, with research projects that include a variety of trade-related topics, such as the export determinants of SMEs.
Pierre Cléroux
BDC’s Vice President, Research and Chief Economist.
An authority on economic trends and entrepreneurship, Pierre has dedicated most of his 25-year career to analysing economic and business trends and translating all this complexity into actionable strategies for business owners. At BDC, he leads a team that has authored more than 50 economic studies over the past 10 years on subjects and trends relevant to Canadian entrepreneurs.

Over the course of her 15 years at BDC, Karen has led the development of numerous annual corporate plans and now leads a national team in developing and implementing BDC’s external partnerships and government relations strategies. Before joining BDC, she was involved in international treaty negotiations, providing policy advice and representing Canada at the United Nations, G8, European Commission and more.
